20.3 Master Skills For Tunables (Solings & J-24s)

Designed for sailors who have a Medium Air rating/Tunables Endorsement who seek to sail with finesse and instinct. This course introduces data and the best literature on advanced methods to improve sailing on all points of sail aboard performance sailboats. For most of the class‚ students will break into teams to problem-solve‚ practice advanced maneuvers‚ and manage complex conditions. While this is not a spinnaker class‚ per se‚ spinnakers will be flown‚ so experience with them is suggested. The goal is for students to leave this class understanding rig tuning‚ rake‚ and the sailing techniques that enable a sailboat to sail consistently at target speeds and angles‚ both upwind and downwind‚ and in many wind and wave conditions and with confidence to manage heavy weather and changing conditions and in getting boat and crew back to the dock safely and without outside support.

Classes meet once a week for four weeks‚ with required practice between sessions.

Prerequisites: 20‚ 10.1‚ 10.2‚ 20.1 or equivalent‚ a Medium Air Rating/Tunables Endorsement and pre-assessment. 301 suggested‚

Mastery of skills at this level is required for an MCSC Heavy Air rating/Tunables endorsement.
