Thoughts On Planned Giving
As we hope most of you know, the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center (MCSC) is knee deep into its Campaign for Today's Youth & Tomorrow's LeaderSHIP, the capital campaign aimed at raising $4.2 million to build our much needed new facility.
We are making excellent progress. As of May 2007 we’ve raised more than $1 million. Donations are arriving from individuals, charitable foundations, businesses and organizations, and special events. We're grateful to everyone who has generously donated in the past, and to those who will donate in the future. Thank you.
Many people would like to make larger charitable gifts to support the MCSC, but concerns about personal and family financial security may make these gifts seem impossible. There are, however, legal and secure ways to help make meaningful gifts while satisfying other important financial concerns.
When making a new plan for the future financial well-being of yourself and loved ones, you may wish to begin with your will. A living trust is often used in place of, or in combination with, a will. Rely on your attorney and other advisors to guide you through the estate planning process, however, during that process many people choose to provide for charitable interests by making gifts through their wills or living trusts (bequests). Bequests can be made in the form of specific amounts of cash, other property, a percentage of your overall estate, or all or a potion of the residue, i.e. "what's left" after all other bequests have been fulfilled.
Make no mistake. Everyone at MCSC wants you to live for a very lonnnnnnnnng time. But if you have included MCSC in your will for a significant bequest after you've passed on, or are considering doing so, it may help the Campaign for Today's Youth & Tomorrow's LeaderSHIP if we know about that now.
