20.1 Introduction to Tunables (Solings and J-24s)

Designed for students with a Medium Air Rating/Ensign Endorsement who are actively practicing their sailing skills and want to experience higher performance keelboats‚ such as Solings and J-24s. While not a requirement of racing‚ this class will be valuable for anyone aspiring to expand their range of open sailing experiences‚ race a Soling during Enrichment or join a J-24 team. Instruction will focus on boat basics‚ crew roles‚ helm technique‚ rigging‚ sail trim‚ balance‚ power management‚ and teamwork. The class will meet once a week for three weeks‚ with required practice between sessions. Students should plan to attend one of the Soling/J-24 introductory clinics prior to the first meeting and be familiar boarding‚ crew positions‚ moving about the boat‚ and with the fundamental tools of trim‚ like the outhaul‚ cunningham‚ traveler‚ fairleads and vang.

Proficiency in skills at this level is required for a new MCSC Light Air Rating/Tunables Endorsement.
