With experts from a variety of fields speaking about various topics‚ Lunch on the Lake is a great way to break up the work week and stay connected to MCSC over the winter.

The program will start promptly at 12:05 p.m. and end at 12:50 p.m. so that Downtown employees can join us for their lunch hour. Speakers will stay for questions afterwards as able.

Lunches will be available at 11:45 pm.

January 23rd Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes Glaciers
If you think it’s cold now‚ you should have seen 20‚000 years ago! From ancient 3 billion year old rocks to glacier deposits 20‚000 years (geologically) young‚ the Great Lakes region has experienced most of Earth’s history. Dr. Rachel Headley‚ a glacial geologist with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside‚ will set the modern context by stepping through the geological formation of the Great Lakes region‚ then take an in-depth look at the most recent glaciation of Lake Michigan.

February 20th Virtual Water Table Interactive Exhibit
Explore the Virtual Water Table‚ an interactive exhibit created by the Milwaukee nonprofit Reflo - Sustainable Water Solutions‚ in this dynamic session presented by Michael Timm. The Virtual Water Table features the Augmented Reality Sandbox‚ where you create your own digital watersheds; the MKE Waterscape Game‚ where you join others in role-play to resolve scenarios inspired by our city’s water history; and the Milwaukee Community Map‚ which uses the power of Google Earth to share local water data and stories. Discover how twenty-first-century engagement tools are supporting Great Lakes education among our next generation.

The Alliance for the Great Lakes works to protect the Great Lakes for today and tomorrow. We involve tens of thousands of people each year in advocacy‚ volunteering‚ education‚ and research to ensure the lakes are healthy and safe for all. Originally founded in 1970 as The Lake Michigan Federation it was renamed the Alliance for the Great Lakes in 2006. Along with the name change came an expanded vision: to protect and restore the Great Lakes for people and wildlife‚ forever. Come learn what the Alliance considers most important in helping them to achieve a healthier Great Lakes and what they are doing about it in Wisconsin‚ in a talk and discussion by Todd Brennan‚ Senior Policy Manager for the Alliance for the Great Lakes.

April 17th Lake Michigan Fisheries in an Era of Change
Dr. Titus Seilheimer‚ a fisheries specialist with the Wisconsin Sea Grant‚ speaks to the fact that Lake Michigan provides economically valuable and diverse fisheries-related opportunities‚ from commercially caught Lake Whitefish to recreational fishing for introduced Pacific Salmon. The food web and ecology of the lake has changed over the last several hundred years‚ with that rate increasing in the last century. The current and future status of the fisheries of Lake Michigan is important to Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin.
