Fall & Winter Classes

GPS Challenge!

Thursday‚ February 28‚ 6-8 p.m. (Adventurer’s Meeting)
March 1-April 12 (Geocaching Challenge)

Between March 1 and April 12‚ the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center wants you to take on the task of completing three geocaching challenges that focus on Milwaukee’s connection to its Great Lake. In completing these challenges‚ you will learn to navigate using your handheld GPS‚ as well as learn a little something about the history of Milwaukee’s harbor and other ways of seeing Milwaukee’s watery wonders. Although you can use any device that has a GPS feature‚ this challenge is meant for those who want to practice using offline GPS devices (for instance‚ you can use your phone‚ but in “airplane mode” in order to mimic the experience of off-shore navigating). Complete each of the three hunts and submit your record of completion to MCSC (selfies at the cache sites will work!). The first person‚ or partners‚ to complete all three will be announced THE WINNER on the MCSC website‚ in the newsletter‚ and Opening Day. Be sure to include your GPS in your selfie so that we can see which fun device you used to find your cache. There will be an Adventurer’s Meeting on Thursday‚ February 28 at 6 p.m. in order to hand out the Challenges and offer advice on using your GPS and geocaching. Dockmaster Mike will lead a one-hour introduction to using your GPS for geocaching‚ so come with questions and your GPS. We will announce the winner on April 27‚ 2019 at the Opening Day festivities at Spinnaker Club.
